Gift Of Chai

Making a Mitzvah Happen

The Forever Chai Foundation offers an excellent opportunity for boys and girls approaching their Bar or Bat Mitzvah to help less fortunate children in Israel.

THE GIFT OF CHAI program directly benefits disadvantaged Israeli children in need of support who are being cared for at the SHABTAI LEVI HOME in Haifa,Israel. The SHABTAI LEVI HOME is Israel’s primary refuge and residential program for young children aged 3 days to 7 years who have been physically or emotionally abused, neglected or abandoned.

The SHABTAI LEVI HOME helps these children along with their mothers, whenever possible, receive intensive treatment aimed at giving them a second chance at healthy living and productive lives.

The stories of these children are compelling. Toddlers have been found abandoned, wandering the streets, alone and unfed. Often their parents are children themselves struggling with their own victimization from domestic violence and all that this abuse brings.

A child’s stay at the SHABTAI LEVI HOME can be as long as a year and a half or even longer if necessary. There is always a waiting list even in emergencies. But the good news is that, with help, a large number of children and mothers come through treatment successfully and go on to healthy, normal lives. You can be a part of their success with your contribution to the GIFT OF CHAI.

Participating in the Forever Chai Foundation’s GIFT OF CHAI program gives the Bar Mitzvah boy or Bat Mitzvah girl the opportunity to “make a Mitzvah happen”. They can choose the area of the SHABTAI LEVI HOME they would like to support. Choices vary from Health to Education, from Food to Play, from Comfort to the Home itself. Within these broader areas, specific choices can be made. The parent and child can accumulate gifts to fund their choice or the Bar/Bat Mitzvah child can contribute to the specific needs of a child at Shabtai Levi. Whatever they choose, each Gift of Chai participant will make a huge difference in the lives of these children.

Choosing the area that they would like to support may be your child’s first independent step towards assuming their responsibility as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. It is a life lesson in Tzedakah and they will be instrumental in making a Mitzvah happen.

Since the FOREVER CHAI FOUNDATION began to raise awareness and support on behalf of the SHABTAI LEVI HOME, more than $1.5 million have been raised from generous donors like you. These funds have allowed the children and mothers of the SHABTAI LEVI HOME to embrace the hope and promise of a brighter future.
